Shakawe is back dropped by a vast river front and the constant sound of bird chatter. In this tranquil village, the Shakawe Craft Centre is found. The centre was initiated in April 2013 with a mandate for centralizing & displaying the craft and culture of those living in and around the village as well as some of the more remote outlying areas. This centre potentially reaches out to hundreds of women all with weaving in their blood. The centre supports these local communities by purchasing their handmade crafts and retailing them to the local tourists passing by on their way to cross the mighty Okavango. The more support there is, the more these women’s livelihoods are impacted upon.
