Ngamiland Basket Weavers Trust
The Ngamiland Basket Weavers Trust aims to empower women out of poverty whilst at the same time preserving Batswana’s rich culture and heritage in weaving and basket making. The trust was established in 1998 with a group of nearly 500 Etsha women. Today, although the numbers have diminished, this trust, with its offices at the little village of Etsha 6 reaches many weavers which store and sell their baskets there.
The ladies pride themselves in making first-class baskets, having inherited their fine weaving skills from their ancestors. It is the hope of this trust to build those numbers again to reach more and more women.
